Camp Tarawa - Parker Ranch
Dad often tells stories about his time on the Big Island on the Parker Ranch during WWII. He was a Marine in the Second Marine Division. After the battle at Tarawa, the Marines went to Parker Ranch, where Camp Tarawa was formed. They rested and trained in preparation for their invasion of Saipan. He remembers his time there fondly, especially the steak that Parker Ranch (a very large cattle ranch to this day) served the Marines. Hawaiian veterans built a monument to the Marines on the site of Camp Tarawa.
