The Roman Baths were built on the site of a pagan temple, next to what is now Bath Abbey. The Romans had a wooden roof over this pool, which would have prevented the algae that color the water green. The upper parts of this structure were reconstructed by the Victorians when they rediscovered the natural hot springs that feed the baths.
